A $30-million package of programs is designed to spur innovation and diversification in Alberta's livestock and meat industry. Grant programs, delivered by the Alberta Livestock and Meat Agency (ALMA), will focus on value-added market development, research and development, and industry development. These programs, together with the Growing Forward 2 programs, are part of ALMA's commitment to be a catalyst for change and to help build an internationally respected, competitive and profitable livestock and meat industry. $9-million is also being allocated to bring innovation and efficiency to a whole new level.
Two new initiatives have been created in partnership with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, as part of Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative, will be delivered through ALMA. These include the Automation and Lean Manufacturing Program and the Business and Product Development Program. ALMA is dedicated to playing a key role in finding more affordable and efficient ways to bringing Alberta livestock and meat products to a growing number of markets around the world.
